Château Saint Corbian is one of the last small estates in St. Estèphe, a prestigious winemaking village on Bordeaux’s Left Bank that is famous for structured, masculine styles of claret. Contiguous to Château Calon Segur and just down the road from Château Cos d’Estournel and Château Montrose, Saint-Corbian is an up-and-coming estate producing dense, fruit-forward wines with broad international appeal.
Checking in at 60% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon with dollops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot rounding out the blend, Saint-Corbian’s 2012 release reveals a deep garnet color and a complex bouquet of ripe black fruits, graphite, and mesquite. On the palate, the wine is rich and full-bodied with velvety tannins and a plush texture imparted by the unusually high percentage of Merlot in the blend. This wine pairs beautifully with richer fare such as grilled red meat, pork dishes, and duck.
